Verdict: A really well priced and high quality set of SPD shoes for gravel and road riding, but somewhat slippery on concrete!

As you can see from our photos, the Road 100 shoes by Decathlon’s Van Rysel are a sleek, aerodynamic design that looks like a much more expensive shoe.

The upper is crafted from a synthetic material, ensuring your feet stay cool and comfortable even on these lovely hot summer training rides. The micro-perforated surface enhances ventilation, preventing overheating and excessive sweating. A classic three-strap Velcro closure system allows for easy adjustments and a secure fit, ensuring that the shoes stay snugly in place without causing discomfort (especially when your feet swell on those long training rides!).

The Road 100 shoes are equipped with a super stiff nylon sole, which efficiently transfers power from your legs to the pedals when riding, but can be a nightmare to walk around in for anything more than a few steps.

That said, the stiffness is balanced with enough flexibility to maintain comfort, making them suitable for long-distance rides. The shoes are compatible with Look Delta and Shimano’s SPD-SL cleats, offering versatility for different pedal systems. The toe box provides ample room (more than other pairs we’ve used), while the padded heel cup helps to secure the foot, reducing the risk of slippage during pedalling.

Weighing in at approximately 300 grams per shoe, the Road 100 shoes are lightweight, reducing the overall burden on you when you’re putting the power down.

Overall, the Van Rysel Road Cycling Shoes Road 100 by Decathlon are a solid investment for road bike training or bikepacking racers seeking a reliable, comfortable, and efficient pair of road cycling shoes. With their combination of thoughtful design and high-quality materials, they deliver excellent value for money.
