Verdict: A dependable and robust set of waterproof trousers at a moderate price.

The Mountain Equipment Karakoram Mountain Men's Pant is a premium outdoor trouser engineered for high-altitude and extreme mountain adventures.

Designed to provide optimal weather protection and durability, these pants are crafted with 3-layer DRILITE® 70D fabric, a lightweight yet robust material that delivers reliable waterproofing, wind proofing, and breathability. Additionally, 320D reinforced weaves in high-stress areas such as the knees, seat, and lower legs ensure exceptional resistance to wear and tear, making the Karakoram Pant ideal for technical climbs, mountaineering, and other demanding activities.

A standout feature of the Karakoram Pants is their carefully tailored design, which prioritises both functionality and comfort. The articulated fit allows for a wide range of motion, crucial for tackling technical terrain, wearing on a mountain / fatbike, or steep ascents. The adjustable braces and elasticated waist provide a secure, customisable fit, while the integrated belt ensures they stay in place during intense activity. Full-length side zips allow for quick ventilation and make it easy to layer the pants over boots or remove them in variable conditions. The zips are two-way, enabling versatile use and temperature regulation.

For those venturing into snowy or icy environments, the Karakoram Pants include integrated snow gaiters that effectively block out snow and debris. Reinforced kick patches further enhance durability, particularly in areas prone to abrasion from crampons or sharp edges. These features ensure the pants can withstand the challenges of alpine or winter expeditions, where reliability and performance are non-negotiable.

The DRILITE® fabric used in the Karakoram Pants strikes a balance between weather protection and breathability, making them well-suited for long days in unpredictable weather. Whether you're facing heavy rain, snow, or strong winds, these pants keep you dry and comfortable without compromising mobility. Despite their rugged construction, they remain lightweight, reducing overall fatigue during extended use.
