The MO Museum in Vilnius is a prominent cultural landmark dedicated to modern and contemporary art.

Located in the heart of the city, the museum was founded by Lithuanian philanthropists Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus, who sought to create a space that would celebrate and promote Lithuanian modern art. The museum opened its doors in 2018 and has since become a vibrant centre for artistic expression and cultural exchange.

Designed by the renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the MO Museum building itself is a striking piece of modern architecture. Its bold, angular design, with a sweeping white facade and large windows, stands out in the urban landscape, symbolising the museum's forward-thinking approach. The structure is not only visually impressive but also thoughtfully designed to create an engaging experience for visitors, with spacious galleries, a rooftop terrace, and a welcoming public space.

Inside, the MO Museum hosts a diverse collection of modern and contemporary art, featuring works by both well-established and emerging Lithuanian artists. The museum’s collection spans from the 1950s to the present day, offering a comprehensive overview of the evolution of Lithuanian art during a period marked by significant social and political changes. Exhibitions at the MO Museum are dynamic and frequently changing, ensuring that there is always something new to discover.

In addition to its art exhibitions, the MO Museum serves as a cultural hub, hosting a wide range of events, including film screenings, workshops, lectures, and discussions. These events aim to engage the community and foster a deeper understanding of contemporary issues through the lens of art. The museum also places a strong emphasis on education, offering programs and activities designed to inspire creativity and critical thinking among visitors of all ages.

The MO Museum has quickly established itself as a key player in Vilnius’s cultural scene, attracting both local residents and international visitors. It not only showcases the richness of Lithuanian art but also serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange, connecting Vilnius with the global art community. Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply curious about contemporary culture, the MO Museum offers a unique and enriching experience, making it a must-visit destination in Vilnius.
