Verdict: A great belay device at a good price also!

Having dropped my original belay device on the Matterhorn, I was after a new one – and the ATC-XP by Black Diamond certainly delivers!

 

Distinguishing itself with high-friction grooves, the ATC-XP offers an impressive grip and stopping power in its friction mode. Additionally, a machined window within the device contributes to its lighter weight, resulting in the ATC-XP weighing just 64 grams.

 

A durable cable construction maintains its shape and prevents entanglement between ropes, ensuring smooth handling during belaying and rappelling activities.

 

Designed to accommodate ropes ranging from 7.7 to 11mm in diameter, the Black Diamond ATC-XP belay device caters to a broad spectrum of climbing scenarios, spanning from sport cragging to ice climbing.
