Roaming around Pikakari beach (aka Pikakari rand) in Northern Tallinn
Located on the western outskirts of Tallinn in the Kakumäe district, Pikakari Beach is a popular destination for those looking to escape the city and enjoy a day by the sea. The beach offers visitors calm waters, beautiful scenery, and a range of amenities, including changing rooms, showers, and toilets. Several cafes and restaurants are also nearby for visitors to enjoy a meal or a drink.
Accessible by car or public transport, with several bus lines and a train station located nearby, Pikakari Beach is situated on the Paljassaare peninsula in northern Tallinn near the Katariina pier. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including swimming, sunbathing, and volleyball. The beach also features swings, a children's playground, benches, a boardwalk, trash bins, and outdoor toilets. It is understood that lifeguards are on duty from June until August between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m, however this should be checked on the official websites listed below.
Pikakari Beach has been awarded a Blue Flag, and nearby, visitors can explore the Paljassaare nature reserve and nature trail. Although the sea becomes deep quickly at this sandy beach, the first few metres have a stony bottom, and waves created by passing passenger ships add excitement to the experience.
