Wild Country Zephyros Compact 2 Tent

Verdict: a great tent for bikepacking or fastpacking adventures, that’s light, spacious, and simple!

At only 1.3kg, the Wild Country Zephyros Compact 2 tent is epically light and useful for hiking and bikepacking trips, however I’ve used for it an eight-day attempt to climb the Matterhorn (from the Italian side) but wouldn’t really recommend it as a base camp setup – just light and quick trips.

For quick trip, I only really taken the waterproof outer layer and the telescopic pole to use as a one-person bivvy of sorts. It has a 1.5-person capacity and entry / exit points from both sides, it’s really useful when camping space is at a premium.

It comes in 2 main parts, the outer layer and the flysheet (which can be removed and left out altogether).

Of note, adding the flysheet drastically reduces the working space of the tent by about a third to half. It creates 2 small porch areas for storing kit (and protects you from flies!).

It’s super simple to erect the Wild Country Zephryos, you install the main pole into the outer to hold the centre up and then peg out the base. We learned not to peg it out too tightly otherwise it puts a big load on the zips and means they don’t close very easily.

Lastly, to increase the space, you add the poles to prop up the ends. I commonly leave these behind and use small sticks to save on carrying extra weight.
