Episode 3 ~ Laura Try
In episode 3, we talk to the indomitable ocean rower Laura Try (otherwise known as ‘LT’ to her friends!). In her talk at August’s (2019) Tales of Adventure, Laura shared her story of how she went from a shopaholic salon owner to minimalist Atlantic Ocean rower and adventurer in the space of just 4 years.
In this update, Laura uses anecdotes from her time on the Atlantic Ocean with team ‘Row for the Ocean’, and how endeavour has helped make lasting and monumental life changes in this challenging time!

00:00:42 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Laura, welcome to another tale.
00:00:45 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Adventure Podcast how are you?
00:00:46 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Doing.
00:00:47 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Thanks for having me Chris. I'm doing awesome. Normally we see each other face to face, so it's pretty weird to be doing it like digitally while we can't see each other.
00:00:56
It.
00:00:57 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
It looks really odd, doesn't it? Where it's where we're we're doing it over zoom and recording through phones and stuff.
00:01:03 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Because of obviously the global pandemic. And yeah, I think the last time we met was in what central London, when Duncan did his talk, wasn't it?
00:01:04 Speaker 3
Yeah.
00:01:12 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I know with Tens, 10s of people around us, I mean, imagine.
00:01:20 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
See, it's. It's like, literally what? Two months ago now. And it just it just it feels like another year altogether.
00:01:27 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It feels it just feels like a whole different existence, doesn't it? To have people around you.
00:01:34 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, my God.
00:01:35 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Anyway, so we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll get moving anyway. Give us a. Give us a heads up as to what you've been up to since you did your tales adventure talk then.
00:01:44 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Well, we've been in lockdown now for probably, what, five weeks as we're recording this, and I'd love to tell you that I've been doing some amazing things, but I've been at home.
00:02:00 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Following the government guidelines and yeah, actually I'm gonna be honest. I've had. I've had a really good time because for the last five or six years I've been.
00:02:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I've just been giving everything my all I've been doing adventures, rowing oceans.
00:02:20 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And for the first time, probably in my adult life, I've stopped and relaxed. So this past few weeks for me, it's almost like someone has sent me a gift and.
00:02:32 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'm. I'm loving it.
00:02:34 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
I know completely what you're talking about. It's I've had all these ideas floating around my head for the past 18 months or so and since since my injury last year, it's I've had essentially like a paid sabbatical to to start pulling them out and and working on them. So yeah, it's.
00:02:54 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
It it, it doesn't feel. It feels odd to actually enjoy some a bit of a slow change in pace, doesn't it?
00:03:01 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I actually feel it's probably how the human race should live, just to be a bit more still and present, so just using it as an opportunity really.
00:03:13 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, awesome. What kind of things are you getting up to? I've seen on Instagram you're doing some cool garden workouts. And yeah, what? What sort of things have you been doing?
00:03:23 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Well, it was really weird how it all worked out. Actually I just finished a huge work contract in at the beginning of March and it was all-encompassing over four months it was.
00:03:39 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
12/15 hour days that every single part of my brain basically was soaked in that job I was working for the Atlantic Rowing race, the one that I did the previous year.
00:03:50 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And as much as I loved it.
00:03:53 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I knew when I when that event finished that I was going to take some time out, so I had it in my diary to take between one and two months of just kind of Lt Time, self-care, rejuvenate and find my flow again. And two weeks after the race finished.
00:04:07
Right.
00:04:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
This happened with COVID-19 and it was.
00:04:16 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just you know that timing is so bizarre because I think if if this hadn't have been happening, I might have felt guilty for stopping. And I had it in my head that I wanted to write write more from my website, write more articles and also make some more videos, all things that.
00:04:36 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
In the real world or normal life, I.
00:04:41 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Wouldn't have had time to do because I'd have been doing work or got called to meet Inns or had to be the other side of London and everything I wanted to do always got put on the on the back.
00:04:51 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Burner always was.
00:04:54 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The bottom of the priority list when in fact it should have been the top because it was what I wanted to do so desperately and so as soon as we went into lockdown, I was. I just said to myself, I've got this chance once this is very unlikely to ever happen again, and I just opened my laptop.
00:05:14 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I got my camera out. I just started writing and recording videos and.
00:05:20 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I've I've just found my flow, it's just the most incredible feeling. That's what I think. That's why I'm so happy. Because I'm doing stuff that I've wanted to do for about 6 years.
00:05:26
Yeah.
00:05:32 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. Yeah, I do. You know, actually, let, let's just rewind a second. Go back to give people some context as to your talks in the past. So you're an ocean Roma. You rode around the UK two or three years ago.
00:05:47 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
2017.
00:05:48 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
And then you did the.
00:05:50 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. OK. And then you did the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic challenge in starting December 2018, didn't you?
00:05:56 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
That's right, yeah.
00:05:59 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. So you you've, you've obviously experienced months of months of ocean rowing where where?
00:05:59 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yes.
00:06:06 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Some days, like boredom can really strike you down hard count and other days you just you just have this kind of creativity just flourishing out of you where you you stop getting distracted from your phone, from your laptop, or social settings around you. And I'm not sure if you had the same experience, but some days it was wonderful.
00:06:26 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
And other days it was. It was incredibly frustrating almost like these. These peaks and troughs when when Ocean ran.
00:06:33 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Ohh, totally yeah. We were at sea for 43 days and there's so much about what's happening right now that is just so similar to Rowan and Ocean where I would get up for a shift every two hours. We would get up actually.
00:06:52 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Two hours on, two hours off, and it was it was basically like Russian roulette to how you woke up and how you felt. It depends if you'd fuelled well before you slept, how hard you'd rode the shift before. If you'd woken up in a deep sleep pattern.
00:07:10 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
How everyone else was feeling on the boat. What's the weather doing? All of those things combined can then have an effect. As you know, on how I was feeling and I to some extent was out of control of that. And so sometimes I'd go to sleep and think, oh, I wonder what I'm going to feel like when I wake up.
00:07:30 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And.
00:07:31 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
On our boat, we just dealt with each shift at a time. If someone didn't feel great, that just was it. It was merely a fact rather than a an emotion. And if someone felt great, we would treat it exactly the same. Again. It was just accepting the fact that that was how we felt.
00:07:52 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Or she felt. And then I suppose it's a bit like what's happening right now. There's some days where I wake up, and it really is like Groundhog.
00:08:01 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Day because I'm choosing not to go out and do my daily exercise because I'm in central London and there's so many people out. If I can be.
00:08:03
Mm-hmm.
00:08:12 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
An extra person that isn't out, it just takes a little bit of pressure off the system, and so each day is feeling really Groundhog Day.
00:08:23 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And I just, I feel, you know, I feel so grateful for that time on the ocean to understand that every day isn't the same.
00:08:32 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
That there are good days and there are bad days and that the bad days won't always last forever. And also the good days won't last forever. Neither will the motivation or the sadness or the happiness it's like.
00:08:46 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I just wake up and I just go ohh this is how I'm feeling today and then I just get on with it. It's like I I feel so enlightened. Like I feel quite smug saying it but.
00:08:57 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And it it's just.
00:08:59 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'm so grateful for that experience on the ocean.
00:09:03 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah, no, it's, it's, it's, it's a really profound way of putting it actually because as we were talking before we started recording, I was having a a bit of a sense of humour failure with just general technology today. So subscribing to, you know, certain creative software or having, you know, laptops or.
00:09:23 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Phones made by a certain company and it all, they all just seem.
00:09:26 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
To be.
00:09:27 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Fighting we check with each other, you know, is is is almost like they're all conspiring against me or or seemingly for, like, conspiring against me. And I think like, just even just within 10 minutes of talking to you, I'm just like Chris.
00:09:35 Speaker 3
Yeah.
00:09:41 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Like, you know, compared to the time round of the ocean or the time in hospital or the time on mountains.
00:09:46 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
I'm like, does it really matter?
00:09:49 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
It's it's so funny how it's yeah.
00:09:49
Yeah.
00:09:53 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I take quite a lot of, I take quite a lot of inspiration from people like Ross Edgley and Tim Ferris and Ryan Holiday, who all practise Stoicism.
00:09:53 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Take it out of, yeah.
00:10:04 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And just like that feeling the so my equivalent of you and your technology this morning is our draining board and our it's you know when it's draining board Jenga and we've just got the worst, the worst draining board ever where everything just falls off and you know that is the one thing in my life that just makes me so mad when everything.
00:10:21 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:10:25 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Falls off on the floor. Things crash and that's my trigger. And then I just.
00:10:30 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Saying just, it's not that bad. Like, calm down. It's that's that's that's my that's my that's that's doing the drying and the washing up is harder than throwing an ocean in my life.
00:10:34 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah, yes.
00:10:46 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
It's it's all relative, isn't it? It's like Sunday Sundays, you know, this morning I just woke up and I was like, oh, it's Friday and then, you know, tech seemed to be defeating me. And I was just like, oh, this is.
00:10:58 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, the, the, the these things should be better than this. And then, yeah, you know, a few minutes talking to you and like, actually, Chris, you know what, we've been through some harder times than this does it? Does it really matter that, you know, the laptop isn't really kind of working the way it's supposed to? All the phones, you know, just just being a pain in the ****.
00:11:19 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, I think I'm. I've definitely missed being in that environment and in need of being in in it soon.
00:11:24 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
I think.
00:11:26 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I for sure. I know that I.
00:11:27 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
That's him.
00:11:30 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I do feel as though I learn more when I'm out in those nature situations rather than being in my house in central London, but also that frustration of being here and not feeling as though I'm learning the lessons I suppose is the lesson for me.
00:11:46 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely, yeah.
00:11:48 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
And I guess it's it's it for the long term, isn't it? Doesn't it because we we we get used to being, you know without UM, no you know normal.
00:12:01 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Commodities, you know, and then and then when we're put into this environment where we've got too much tech or too much, you know, access to to, you know, restaurants and cafes and normal stuff, we we almost just become a bit, you know, a bit soft to it, don't we in some ways.
00:12:15 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, yeah, couldn't agree more.
00:12:17
I'm.
00:12:19 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
So I'm just. I'm gonna jump forward to. I'm gonna pull the last question forward a a few. What's So what? Post Ocean road. What are you aiming for next? What's? What's kind of like your next big adventure? The next thing you're aiming for?
00:12:35 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I like that question. It's good. Originally, after coming back from the Atlantic Ocean, I was due to row across the Pacific. I wanted to put four females together to row from San Francisco to Hawaii and I wanted it to be a speed record to be the fastest.
00:12:55 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
For women to do.
00:12:56 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
That route? Umm, I hadn't really made it terribly, terribly public, but for one reason or another, I'm not doing that anymore because it it just didn't feel right. There was certain things that didn't stack up, nothing bad, but just didn't stack up, didn't feel right. It probably wasn't.
00:13:16 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The right time in my life to be doing it, and so I'm not doing that anymore. I say that for those that maybe heard me talk about it, and I'm wondering if I'm still doing it. So I'm not.
00:13:29 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'd really like to do some stuff and I've felt like this for a long time, but especially now the COVID-19 has happened, I really want to do stuff more locally and in our country of Great Britain just because I feel we've got a great country. I feel as though once we've.
00:13:49 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Come out of this our country and our economy will need a boost and we need support that, but also on a kind of sustainability aspect of not getting on a plane and flying to a different country and.
00:14:06 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just being grateful for what I've got right here right now, whether that be my country, my situation, being kind of stuck in my room and such kind of bringing that whole kind of grass is greener where we are rather than across the other side.
00:14:13 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yes.
00:14:27 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So I want to do some smaller stuff, but in Great Britain because as well I think the last few years has made me quite tired, like deep within my body and in my brain, which is why I'm so grateful to have this rest, like the fundraising, the training.
00:14:44 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Team Dynamics, it's all it's all effort and I I was. I was tired and now I feel as I'm.
00:14:52 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Like rebuilding and I just feel so energised.
00:14:56 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. Yes, it's funny you say that because just being on crutches, there's there's gonna sound daft, but just being on crutches has obviously slowed me down, you know, from walking anywhere or cycling or driving anywhere.
00:15:09 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
And.
00:15:10 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
It it sounds like, you know, touch glib. I'd like to notice all these things around me that have been around me for ages, you know, like at the cool shops or interesting graffiti murals or, you know, just just things on on literally on, like a a macro level that I was like, how long has this been here? How long has this been this way? And why? Why only only noticing it now?
00:15:31 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Because, you know, I could. I only go outside for fitness and on crutches. That's, you know, that fitness is like 1/4 of your normal walking.
00:15:39 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Speed and it's it's it's made me appreciate like this, this slow travel idea that I've never never really understood. But now it's starting to really kind of get a hold of me.
00:15:50 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I love it. I just am smiling so much at what you've just said. Like it actually makes me feel a bit emotional because I did exactly the same thing the other day, just going down to the park. And usually I run round the park and I'm like ha ha. As high as my heart rate for ever. And then I just noticed the most beautiful flower.
00:16:09 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And then I thought, well, if I've noticed that what else can I notice?
00:16:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And then I found all these little laminated hearts stuck onto all these trees, and I was looking up. I was looking down and I started actually noticing what's around me because I can't get in my car and go somewhere else.
00:16:25 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'm.
00:16:26 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Kind of within this two mile radius of my house and it's just such a lovely, lovely, lovely.
00:16:33 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Moment.
00:16:35 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. Yeah, I think, Emma. Emma Lawton, one of the previous tells adventure speakers, summed up really well when she said that she when she was diagnosed with uhm, uh, you're on set Parkinson's that she and she she started noticing people's footwear because it had the.
00:16:55 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
An effect on a on a, on a neck, and it made her appreciate kind of start drawing drawing.
00:16:58 Speaker 3
Yeah.
00:17:04 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Ideas out about the footwear that we we wear and how it kind of almost defines a person or just shapes a person. So it's it's interesting. It kind of made me think of her and you know the things that she was saying with with how her young Parkinson's has affected her life.
00:17:21 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It's just so incredible.
00:17:23
Yes.
00:17:24 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
See you. So incredible.
00:17:28 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yes. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Gonna give her a call at some point, actually do it. It tells about the podcast. Catch up with her. And so.
00:17:37 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Cool. So you're you're you've have you delayed the the Pacific Row war is that is that off for an indefinite amount of time? Is it a project on the back burner or or how are you? How are you approaching it now?
00:17:52 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I haven't. It's definitely not a no.
00:17:56 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And it's it's not a yes. I suppose it's one of those things, as if the opportunity arises and the puzzle pieces fit together, then then it will happen. But right now it just doesn't. It just doesn't feel right for me to be doing that.
00:18:11 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And yeah, and and also even if I was to want to do it next year or the year after, we don't know what state the world is going to be in, in terms of travel, sponsorship and all of that. So to just not have the pressure of raising 160,000 lbs.
00:18:11 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:18:31 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Then to fly out to America and have this ocean Robo. It's it's just so nice not to have this pressure. Some I'd quite like to cycle around Great Britain, grab my bike, put a few snacks in my bag and start cycling. I mean, I could leave from my house and I probably wouldn't need.
00:18:42 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:18:50 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Very much money so.
00:18:54 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just things like that. Just. Yeah. Make it easy.
00:18:55
Yeah. So.
00:18:57 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
So we're going to see you go from lower, try the Ocean Road to Laura, try the the bike packing.
00:19:06 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
What's the word like camper or hiker? I don't think it's. It's something.
00:19:09 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah.
00:19:10 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Know I've.
00:19:11 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I changed my Instagram handle recently to experience maker. I just wanna experience as much as possible whether that be.
00:19:17
OK.
00:19:21 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Go into a small boutique event that might last two hours to something that might take six weeks. It's just about me going out and experiencing humans, nature experiences, learning lessons and just like just experiencing joy.
00:19:40 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
At 6:00.
00:19:41 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And.
00:19:41 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah. And and documenting it, obviously you're I've, you know, seen, seen some of your articles and your your video, video, blogs and it's like I think the documenting is is a hugely important part of it as well because, well, my experience has been, you know, trying to get women female adventurers on the tales adventure.
00:20:02 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Stage. It has always been challenging, you know.
00:20:07 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Trying to encourage women to come forward and I think both genders suffer with this, with this impostor syndrome, I think it's, it seems to be more prevalent in in women. Umm. So I'm always always sort of challenged try and get more women speakers on the stage but I think you know people like yourself documenting these these travels and these adventures.
00:20:27 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Actually, they help people, you know, turn from, you know, slightly no to a well, actually they're, you know, Laura is showing showing the ways you can do these things so.
00:20:37 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I really appreciate you saying that because what I what I've found this last five or six weeks of just having time to think is that I think probably that's where where I what I want to do, but maybe even that's what people look upon me to do. Like I really enjoy being curious and thinking.
00:20:58 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I've never done this activity before, so let's go and do it and then I make a little video about it and then other people say ohh, I've always wanted to do that, and then I'm gonna go now and just give in permission for people to be curious and then have the courage to go and do it.
00:21:14 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Like how much in our adult life do we just go and do stuff like when we did, when we were a child? It's not, sadly. Our brains just lose that curiosity and creativity as we get older and I just want to. I just want to kind of just be that person to be like, come on, let's go and do all this. Cool.
00:21:34 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Stuff.
00:21:36 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah, I think it's, you know, like you said, it's almost like the lost.
00:21:40 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
That of of like exploring or whatever the the term is, I think it's like I, I definitely feel it as a bloke in his mid 30s that there's there's a societal pressure to to settle down, to start doing, you know, quote unquote a real job or, you know, just just kind of have all the answers and be.
00:22:00 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Striving towards, you know, doing something, doing something or getting something. So I think it's, you know it for those for those that can.
00:22:09 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Put that to one side of Caster off. I I have huge amounts of respect for because yeah, it's it's seem it seems like it's always around us.
00:22:18 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, totally. Everything you're saying is I I just feel exactly the same.
00:22:24 Speaker 3
Kind of just.
00:22:24 Speaker 3
Want.
00:22:24 Speaker 3
To stand up and throw my arms in the air. Ohh funny.
00:22:25 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Sure.
00:22:34 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Awesome. So OK, so another another difficult question.
00:22:41 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
What? What was it that attracted you to ocean rowing? Was there a standout point that you you saw or you felt where you're like, oh, sure. Well, I need to give this a go this.
00:22:50 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
This looks really interesting.
00:22:51 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Oh, like it's just the best question. I'm gonna. I'm basically going to give you the story that I gave. It tells of adventure now about well.
00:22:55 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yes.
00:23:01 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah.
00:23:04 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Rewind to 10 years ago when I was the owner of a beauty salon.
00:23:11 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And I would just used to be a gym Bunny doing aerobics classes and I thought I was fit, but I mean, compared to what I am now, I wasn't kind of functionally fit. I know that probably there's not very many people that like that word functional, but I was just kind of.
00:23:26
Yeah.
00:23:31 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Like step aerobics and.
00:23:33 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just all that kind of stuff. And then as I started to get to 30, I just had this, this like the curiosity I had this thing inside of me where I just wanted to be out and I wanted to run through the countryside and and up and over mountains. And I kind of always saw a marathon.
00:23:35 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:23:54 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Would be cool and watching all these things on TV with like Bear Grylls and doing the bushcraft like this looks so cool.
00:24:03 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I want to be able to do this stuff.
00:24:06 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So with that, I bought a pair of trainers and and did my first run, but it was only nought .7 miles because I know it was nought .7 miles because at the end of the road it was a bridge, the end of the road where I lived was a bridge and it was nought .7 miles away. Cause I tracked it on my phone.
00:24:26 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
By the time I got to the bridge, I was hanging, I was having a hard time and I had to walk home.
00:24:34 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And from that day, I just kept running to the bridge and back. And then one day I could run all the way back. I could run one.
00:24:42 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
.4 miles.
00:24:43 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Then I did 5K10K got hooked into obstacle racing. Then I was doing marathons. Then that escalated into multi day adventure races.
00:24:44
There.
00:24:56 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Where I'd be awake for like 56 hours.
00:24:59 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:25:01 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And it was because of those adventure races, the guys that organised it, they rang me up one day completely out of the blue, rung me up and said, what you doing next Christmas? Do you want to join our team to row across the Atlantic? Well, at that time I was 32 and I still owned.
00:25:13
Yeah.
00:25:21 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Beauty salon and I thought to myself, well, that sounds that sounds pretty awesome. I didn't know you could do that.
00:25:28
That.
00:25:29 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And at that time, I didn't like. So embarrassing. I didn't even know where the Atlantic was.
00:25:35 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
But I but I said yes, I will join you to row across the Atlantic because I thought first of all, this sounds like an amazing opportunity like the the human body could actually do that. But second of all, if they if these guys who are hugely respected within the adventure.
00:25:49
Yeah.
00:25:55 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Racing world, if they.
00:25:58 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Were offering me and thought that I could do that. Then if they thought I could do it, then I thought I probably could.
00:26:05 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So then.
00:26:07 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It started from there. I'm I mean, I'm 37 now. That was probably 5 1/2 years ago that I was invited to do that and.
00:26:19 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And then it just escalated quickly. Then that didn't work out.
00:26:25 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The offer of Rome across the Atlantic for one reason.
00:26:28 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Or.
00:26:28 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Another just didn't work out, so then I saw online that I could row around Great Britain. So I signed up to do that.
00:26:35 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Then after doing that, someone asked again. Do you want to row across the Atlantic this time and all female team? And I said yes and we ended up doing that and.
00:26:45 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The rest is history. I've now I've done 6000 Ocean Road Miles, which is pretty cool.
00:26:47
Wow.
00:26:57 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
That's, I think, yeah, like by by any ocean roam standard. That's still a quite a considerable amount, isn't it? You know, it's still a very young sport and you know, finding people with with some real deep knowledge is is still quite a rarity in my.
00:27:12 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
And then.
00:27:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I yeah, I love it. I would do it again, but also it, it does make me tired. So we'll just go small for a while.
00:27:21
Yeah.
00:27:23 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah. Now I like. I like what you're saying about.
00:27:27 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Taking taking this this opportunity just to like recover, regenerate, reenergize and then start.
00:27:35 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Putting herself back into, you know, into these difficult places, again, at some point in the future, but not but not feeling the pressure to to do it immediately, I think that's something which crops up quite a lot when I when I talk to other adventurers and explorers, is that they they have a hard time resting. And actually this this almost like self-imposed resting period.
00:27:57
Yes.
00:27:57 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Seems to be quite, quite quite well received, I think by the community.
00:28:01 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, completely restorative and regenerating after many years.
00:28:07 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Of.
00:28:08 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Stress and lack of sleep, which has huge.
00:28:11 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It causes huge problems in our health and our mental well-being, and so it's really important for us to slow down.
00:28:19 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure was there. So another question, was there a standout moment before the Ocean Road that's that's that where you said I've had enough like this. Something needs to change. This needs to change. I'm gonna. You know. I'm. I'm done with, you know, previous decades of of thinking Now I'm going to I'm going to.
00:28:40 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Take on this new lifestyle or this this adventure with both fans and really see where it takes me. Was there like a stand up moment for that?
00:28:48 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, I suppose there's been a couple of times in my life where that's happened. The first one was when I did have my beauty salon, which I'd had for nine years. And I think by the time I'd had it for five or six years, I started to feel this weird feeling of not liking it as much anymore.
00:29:09 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
But I just figured that it was just a phase and I kept kind of dipping in and out of this kind of icky feeling. And and then after nine years, I kind of faced the fact that actually that was.
00:29:25 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'd completely fallen out, fallen out of love with the business and the industry and being a business owner and that I that's when I closed the salon which was.
00:29:36 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:29:37 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
A huge decision, because that's all I'd ever known. It's all I ever worked towards as a young adult to have my beauty salon.
00:29:45 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So that was just one moment. I just woke up and I just knew that that wasn't my future anymore. So that was probably.
00:29:53 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
One point and then another point was when I got back from the Atlantic. I'd had so much time sitting and thinking or what I call it is unthinking. You know that time where you you just aren't thinking about anything.
00:30:09 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:30:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just your mind is so relaxed and a two hour shift someone will go.
00:30:19 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
OK, it's you're finished now and you just go. What? I just. I felt as though I was rowing for 20 minutes. Like that whole. Just your mind is so relaxed and.
00:30:28 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I got back and I just realised because I from the age of 24 up into the age of 35, I'd.
00:30:41 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Had depressive episodes four times throughout that period of 11 years. One of them was so bad I ended up kind of in an emergency situation which just totally wasn't great and I got back after that Atlantic Row and I just thought.
00:31:01 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I never want to be in that position ever again.
00:31:04 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I'm I'm completely capable and and healthy enough to take control of my mental health and.
00:31:13 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I've had enough of feeling in those really horrible places and I think that the being at sea for six weeks literally regenerated my brain and I came back with the healthiest adult brain I've ever had.
00:31:34 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
UM and I wasn't entirely convinced that I would maintain full mental health, but after being back from the Atlantic for 1615 or 16 months.
00:31:50 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Like I haven't haven't been depressed or suffered badly with anxiety. So I think that that, that very definitive and clear decision has made an impact on the rest of my life.
00:32:08 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. Well, you you put it so eloquently that you literally got me thinking about halfway through again.
00:32:16 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
My God, that was.
00:32:17 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Like that ocean right at the time, it seems, you know, it seemed enjoyable. It seemed terrible. It seemed like a roller coaster of emotions, but yeah, like, exactly the way you put it.
00:32:29 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Is that you come back from experience like that and all of a sudden real life.
00:32:35 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Real life doesn't seem quite as as intimidating, or I think you know, certainly for somebody that's been in a I've been a professional organisations for a large part of my formative years and then when I when I tried to join another big one, when I left the military, it just, you know, it just felt like it wasn't me.
00:32:56 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
I've I've I had a hard time sat there pretending like everything is normal whilst everyone was, you know, going about their careers and yeah, I yeah, I've I've never heard it put so eloquently so.
00:33:10 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, that's awesome. Well.
00:33:13 Speaker 3
Thank you.
00:33:16 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
I think we're gonna. I wonder if you're.
00:33:17 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
You're probably like me. Is that you? You you, you sit there and you get this inspiration from other people. And then your, your your creative brain is saying, right. You need to start writing something down. Need to start drawing or you need to start some kind of design. That's that's literally what my creative brain is. Is is pushing into my head right now.
00:33:34 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah, yeah, it's all of this time that we've been given. I'm just able to like piece everything together.
00:33:41 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah. Yeah. Well, so, OK, so final question then. Also I know 2nd and final question, has there been any one instrumental in your journey that you want to thank or you want to highlight or you just want to to share a a kind of a a story about?
00:33:58 Speaker 3
Yeah, it's kind of made me laugh.
00:34:00 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
When?
00:34:00 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Because you gave us a sneak peek of the questions, it makes me laugh. Kind of felt as though, like, I wonder if what's what it feels like to win a BAFTA. Like, I'd like to thank my manager, and I'd like to thank my record label. It really made me chuckle.
00:34:19 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I.
00:34:21 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Before. Ohh yeah, I don't want it. There's a few people that spring straight to mind, but in no in no particular order there was a there's a guy called Russell Quirk and he was my very first sponsor for my round.
00:34:40 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Britain row, like my big financial sponsor and really, without that moment in my life, he I wouldn't have been able to do the row.
00:34:53 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And and it was just great to know that I did that and I got that money and my goodness that rung me dry. I mean, I was, it was so hard fundraising to row around great, Great Britain, that if I was to be.
00:35:05
Wow.
00:35:14 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
If someone said do you want to do that again like in the lack, kind of the lack of experience that I had, no way because I made myself so ill. So when he agreed to be the sponsor, it was just.
00:35:23
Hmm.
00:35:27 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
That was the beginning of my career as kind of an adventurer.
00:35:31 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So he played a huge part and then and then my friends and my mum and my dad for putting up with all of the am I allowed to swear.
00:35:32
Period.
00:35:45 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yes, good. Yeah. Yeah.
00:35:46 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yeah.
00:35:47 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
My friends and my mum and my dad for just putting up with all of my ******** for the last few years like I've was a absolute toe rag as a teenager. I was a tear away in my 20s.
00:35:59 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Sounds.
00:36:02 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And when I got really, really depressed, put my put my best mate.
00:36:09 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Karina and my my mum and my dad under this huge amount of pressure because I was suicidal and I told them that I wanted to take my own life. I mean, what an awful thing to do and the amount of sadness that that put on them and yet they were just there checking on me.
00:36:11
Hmm.
00:36:29 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The.
00:36:30 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Just basically eternally grateful to them forever and ever and ever.
00:36:36 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah.
00:36:36 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And then two people who you know, who are also my best friends, and I just couldn't imagine life without Duncan, Roy and Angus, who are ocean.
00:36:46 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Yes, yes. And I'll talk about Angus first. I first met Angus when I rode around Great Britain, and when I met him, I just thought, how on Earth are we ever gonna get on? We were just so different from completely different worlds. And we were due to row around Britain together.
00:37:06 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
He was part of the.
00:37:08 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The team at Ranik Adventure who were arranging the trip and two weeks into this trip, we just formed this friendship and he is just one of my best friends ever. He is.
00:37:25 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Down to earth gives me advice if I'm ever in a pickle and I can't work something out, I just ring him up and he's just boom, just gives me the answer and I just yeah, I trust that man with my life.
00:37:38 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And then Duncan Roy, who I met in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic challenge. He was part of the team rope victory, and I was role for the ocean and dunk and I had been friends kind of virtually on in the indoor rowing world for a couple of years. But finally we were.
00:37:39
Yeah.
00:37:57 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Going as part of the same event and we've got quite similar personalities.
00:38:03 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Uhm.
00:38:04 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
The boat organisers in the race knew that our teams were friends, so they put us together in the boatyard and we just had so many laughs just picking each other up, having a really good time in a really stressful situation. And then since getting back from the the rowing.
00:38:24 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And can I speak every Monday? We do a call called Monday motivation where we hold each other accountable, helping achieve our goals and ambitions and giving each other a encouragement and accountability.
00:38:37 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
And he's just turned into my best mate as well, where I know that I can say to him like I've got this idea, but I'm not. I'm not too sure about it. Tell him what you think, and I just know that I'm gonna get honest and supportive feedback and just just got my little kind. Just got my crew and.
00:38:52 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah.
00:38:56 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
I just feel so grateful to to to have them looking after me and also to look after them in return.
00:39:05 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, yeah. And I I know exactly what you mean about Duncan as well. He when I, when I had my Matterhorn full. Uh, he my girlfriend and Lisa phoned him up. Uh and he was in a gym in Yorkshire at the time and it was like a like a Tuesday or Wednesday night or something. And he drove. He dropped everything, you know, off not the weights.
00:39:25 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Drove six hours down to Gatwick and then flew out immediately to to be kind of by my side and whilst I was in in a coma and I was like how many people in your life do you meet that will literally drop everything?
00:39:42 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
For you and then fly out immediately overseas just to make sure that the family and girlfriend and loved ones are OK. So I'm yeah, totally grateful to be get to Dr as we lady planting together the year before.
00:39:48
Oh.
00:39:54 Speaker 3
Oh.
00:39:58 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It's too much. My heart is about my heart is the heart to, like, explode. I've got tears in my eyes.
00:40:01
That's right.
00:40:04 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
It's like you guys are just so, so cute. Ohh.
00:40:10 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Yeah, I've got. I've got a question after this. After this and just say by the way, Dr, you've got a huge, huge dimension from Lt and I on the on the telemetry vodka.
00:40:19 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Big, big up to the Duncan Tron Oye.
00:40:26 Speaker 3
Ohh man.
00:40:27 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
So yeah, so all the listeners, this could become really awkward because we're now just speaking about.
00:40:32 Speaker 3
We love dunk.
00:40:37 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Ohh well, why I he's he's definitely going to get a a message from to give a call. Actually it's been a couple weeks since we last spoke to him. So yeah, awesome. Alright. OK, before I do let you go though as it's approaching lunchtime. Can you just remind the listeners?
00:40:54 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
Or or. Tell listeners about what your Instagram handles are or how they can keep up with you and find out more information because you you've been one of the most.
00:41:03 Chris Shirley, Website Developer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Brand Designer at Haus of Hiatus, website and brand design studio
You know, gripping and inspiring speakers I've ever had on the tales of venture stage. It was, you know, that that women adventures event was it's going to become a stable, like every every few months.
00:41:15 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
Awesome. Totally awesome. Yeah, I'd love it if people wanted to keep up to date with my antics. Then I use Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and the handles are at Laura Tri UK.
00:41:32 Laura Try, Ocean rower, YouTuber and adventure
