Verdict: high quality and affordable custom-made bikepacking bags that are built with care, by a manufacturer who also uses the products!

Taking up Bikepacking properly in 2022 with the aspiration of attempting the Silk Road Mountain race, I knew the next part of the puzzle for my load carriage challenge, would be making use of the centre triangle with a frame bag.

I looked around the internet for pre-made options from Alpkit, Restrap, and a few others – however decided to go with a custom-made one due to the odd frame shape. After a few weeks weighing up options on Etsy (what I found to be the best option for finding the most affordable producers) I opted for Ride and Get Lost after finding him on there.

Cost

Coming in around £85 (for delivery in Europe) from the website, the Ride and Get Lost bag appeared the best quality at the most affordable price. It’s made by Pawel, who’s based in Poland, using high-quality fabrics (more on that below) that will send internationally.

The building process.

Having a Giant Toughroad gravel bike meant the framebag had to fit into some odd proportions (due to the hydroformed frame shape), however, Pawel, the owner, was excellent at communicating and made the bag fit my frame perfectly.

The process is quite straightforward, place a single piece of cardboard inside the frame and measure the dimensions, then send a picture to Pawel to reproduce. Getting a single piece of cardboard big enough can be a challenge (I used an old bike box to do mine), it takes a few attempts to figure it out, but you’ll get there with it eventually. Email a high-resolution photo to Pawel, and he’ll get back to you with any problems or get straight onto it.

Made from high quality, waterproof (and 100% climate neutral according to the website) X-PAC VX21 from Dimension polyant® fabric with YKK® Aquaguard zips, you have a range of colour options ( I went with a nice teal colour!), the well-made frame bag fitted my gravel bike perfectly.

Summary

A fantastic frame bag at an affordable price. In the future, I’ll be setting up my Trek Marlin 7 for mountain bike packing and training and buying another frame bag from Ride and Get Lost to set me up best for this.

Highly recommended, great communication, patience (with my complicated frame), and a quick build time, and exceptional result.
