The tour of Rannoch Adventure workshop in Burnham-on-Crouch was a great experience, offering a first-hand look into the heart of one of the main ocean rowing companies.

Established in 2011 by Charlie Pitcher (pictured), the workshop exuded a sense of commitment to excellence, passion for sea-going adventures, and a dedication to providing top-notch support to ocean rowers worldwide.

As we explored the workshop, the atmosphere buzzed with focused activity. Meeting the various team members, who were deeply engaged in wiring up and developing the boats, shed light on the evolution of this relatively new sport.

His insight into the integration of electronics into the boats highlighted the company's commitment to making rowing more accessible to the average person. The idea that technology enables rowers to navigate with ease and seek help at the push of a button showcased the intersection of tradition and modernity in the world of ocean rowing.

The narrative of Rannoch Adventure's growth, from Charlie Pitcher's personal achievements in the Trans-Atlantic Race to the subsequent development of innovative boats, painted a picture of a company deeply rooted in the spirit of adventure. The mention of Roxy Expeditions, a 12-person ocean rowing boat designed to make rowing accessible to everyone, further emphasised the company's commitment to inclusivity and expanding the reach of ocean rowing experiences.

The pride in being the only rowing business run by rowers and sailors was evident throughout the tour. The strategic location of the workshop near international air and shipping ports, coupled with access to water 24/7 for training, showcased all the obvious advantages of its location. The proximity to RYA recognised sailing schools for training courses added another layer of practicality and convenience.

What stood out during the tour was the emphasis on local engagement. The fact that almost all trades involved in the construction of Rannoch boats are local to Burnham exemplifies a commitment to community and a sense of pride in contributing to the local economy.

In conclusion, the tour of Rannoch Adventure workshop was a journey through a world where passion for the sea, commitment to quality, and technological innovation converged. The company's dedication to making ocean rowing accessible to everyone, coupled with its strong ties to the local community, positions Rannoch Adventure as a standout player in the world of ocean rowing.
