Verdict: A great piece of kit that’s adapted well and solved a load carriage problem on our fatbike!

The Pelago Commuter Front Rack is a sturdy, well-crafted piece of equipment, designed to carry everything from daily essentials to more adventurous loads.

Constructed from stainless steel (with an aluminium version also available) it is both lightweight and durable, available in two sizes, and comes in polished or black finishes. Although designed as a front rack, with some creative adjustments, we modified for rear use, even on unique setups like the Kona Wo fatbike with its 26” wheels and 4.8” tyres.

Fitting the rack to the rear of the Kona Wo required a bit of ingenuity. The rack’s versatile attachment points allowed for modifications, though the fat bike's wide tyres posed a challenge. We had to adjust the mounting arms and spacers to prevent the rack from interfering with the massive 4.8” tyres. With careful positioning and adjustment of the hardware, the rack fit snugly at the rear, providing the same solid performance it’s known for on the front of bikes.

Once installed, the rack proved to be as reliable and functional on the rear as it is upfront. Its porteur-style design made it perfect for carrying various loads, from commuting essentials to heavier gear for more extended trips. The additional attachment points for panniers were a bonus, allowing for even more versatility when riding with gear.

In summary, the Pelago Commuter Front Rack exceeded expectations, even when repurposed for rear use on a fatbike like the Kona Wo. Its robust construction, combined with flexible attachment points, makes it adaptable to different bike setups. While it required some tweaking to accommodate the fat tyres, the end result was a reliable, durable rack that can carry heavy loads with ease, offering a fantastic option for those looking for both front and rear versatility in their bike rack solutions.
