Verdict: A great trekking backpack with ample space and features to make expeditions more comfy!

Whilst it has since been replaced by the ‘Sirac’ trekking backpack, the Atlas 65 backpack made by Lowe Alpine, stands out as an exceptional choice for adventurers embarking on multi-day treks, world travel, or extended remote expeditions.

Beginning with its ergonomic design, the Atlas incorporates Lowe Alpine's Axiom 3 back system, renowned for its adjustability and breathability.

Utilising strategic foam padding under the shoulder straps and lower back, it ensures a comfortable fit while allowing air to circulate through the pack, enhancing ventilation during long hikes.

The heavily padded hipbelt plays a crucial role, distributing around 70% of the pack's weight to the hips, thereby reducing strain on the lower back and shoulders (important on those long days!). Notably, the hip belt features a central groove that facilitates natural movement while walking or climbing, enhancing overall comfort and stability. Completing the contact points, a chest strap with an integrated whistle secures the shoulder straps in place, ensuring a snug and supportive fit.

The Atlas is equipped with a variety of well-designed pockets to meet the needs of adventurers on the go. The large top-loading lid features a convenient pocket for storing essential items, while two mesh pockets on either side accommodate water bottles up to 1 litre in size (as seen in the photos)

. Above these, spacious zipped bellows pockets offer ample room for extra layers, waterproofs, or snacks. For easy access to the lower half of the pack without unpacking everything, a large, zipped compartment at the bottom serves as a dedicated storage space for a sleeping bag or mat. Additionally, a hydration sleeve accommodates up to a hydration system, ensuring easy access to water during long hikes.

The pack boasts several clever features aimed at enhancing functionality and convenience. 'Tip grippers' securely hold walking poles, while built-in rain cover provides protection from the elements when needed. Lash points offer versatility for attaching additional gear, while ice axe loops cater to mountaineering enthusiasts. Inside the lid pocket, a key clip adds practicality, ensuring keys are readily accessible. Finally, compression straps help stabilise the load, while additional lash points provide further customisation options for gear attachment.

In summary, the Lowe Alpine Atlas 65 backpack excels in comfort, durability, and functionality, making it an ideal choice for adventurers seeking a reliable companion for their outdoor pursuits.
