Verdict: A very tasty meal but could do with a ‘tastier’ price tag!

As avid outdoor enthusiasts, we understand the importance of a hearty and satisfying meal after a long day of pedalling, hiking or climbing.

We were thrilled to discover the Porcini Mushroom Risotto from Firepot foods as a nicer alternative to dried noodles, and this rice-based meal with pan-fried porcini and chestnut mushrooms, is definitely a game-changer for any outdoor adventure!

The first thing that struck us about this risotto is its rich and robust flavour. The combination of soaked porcini mushrooms and grilled chestnut mushrooms creates a depth of umami that is hard to find in all the other dehydrated meals we’ve tried (and there have been a lot!). Unlike other risottos on the market, Firepot doesn't skimp on the mushrooms – each bite is packed with hearty slices, reminiscent of homemade comfort food.

As long as you get the cooking time right (follow the guide on the back of the packet) the texture of the Arborio rice is perfectly cooked, offering just the right amount of bite without being overly mushy. This attention to detail showcases the brand's commitment to quality. Finished with a hint of brightness from chopped flat-leaf parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice, the Mushroom Risotto delivers a burst of freshness that balances the richness of the dish.

Whether you're fuelling up for a mountaineering expedition, embarking on a bikepacking adventure, or simply enjoying a meal at home, Firepot Food’s Porcini Mushroom Risotto is sure to satisfy your cravings and keep you warm inside and out and is a great addition to any multi-day adventure.
