Wedze G500 winter sports goggles (from Decathlon)
Verdict: A great pair of winter sports goggles at a great price!
Needing a new set of goggles for winter fatbiking adventures, I found these in a Decathlon store, and found them to be exactly what I needed at a decent price.
They are certified as 100% anti-UV, (meeting the EN-174 safety standard), effectively shielding the eyes from harmful UV rays and glare – which means everything has a slightly pinkish hue, however this doesn’t seem to affect my depth perception (even at night). This is particularly crucial during activities in snow where the brightness can be vast even on overcast days.
Their pink screen is specifically designed for use in adverse weather conditions. Moreover, these goggles can accommodate various lenses, allowing users to adapt to changing weather by easily unclipping and replacing the lens. This feature enables the insertion of alternative lenses, such as those suitable for fair weather (sold separately) however I prefer to wear sunglasses underneath them as this means you don’t need to faff with trying to change lens in the cold and when you’re wearing thick gloves.
The goggles feature a ventilated frame, dual lens, and optimal anti-fog properties. Additionally, they can accommodate glasses with a maximum frame width of 140 mm, providing comfort for users requiring prescription glasses. Anecdotally, I found normal curved cycling sunglasses (i.e., not flat glasses like Rayban Wayfarers) seem to fit underneath them without any problems.
In summary, these goggles are crafted with a focus on eye protection, adaptability, comfort, and visual quality at a decent price.
