Verdict: A great technical shell jacket, but slightly pricy for what it is.

As we train for the Silk Road Mountain Race and the other bikepacking adventures, we’re always on the lookout for gear that can keep our riders dry, and this waterproof shell jacket certainly delivers on performance.

From braving torrential downpours (always a possibility when riding in the places we do) to hiking in unpredictable weather, this jacket's technology ensures you stay dry and comfortable. The fully seam-sealed construction and PU-coated zippers provide excellent water resistance, and the underarm venting is a thoughtful addition that prevents overheating during strenuous hikes.

The Mazama jacket’s design is highly functional. The adjustable hood, cuffs, and drawcord at the hem offer a customisable fit that keeps the elements out. The chin guard and stand-up collar provide extra protection for your neck and face, which is a nice touch during windy conditions. The jacket also features reflective elements, enhancing visibility during low-light conditions, making it a reliable companion for early morning or late evening treks.

While the jacket’s technical features and durability are impressive, the price point does raise some eyebrows. Given its 100% polyamide composition and the absence of a membrane, it’s worth questioning whether the cost aligns with the value. There are other jackets in the market with similar or even more advanced features at a lower price.

In conclusion, this jacket excels in functionality and performance, offering excellent protection against the elements. However, potential buyers might want to weigh the benefits against the price, considering there may be other options that provide comparable performance without stretching the budget. If the price doesn’t deter you, this jacket is a solid investment for any outdoor adventure.
